We chose to recreate the eclisse table lamp by artemide, as a classic italian design object and with the goal to create an amazing animation of it. Me and my partner worked on the project together, with me focusing on the 3D modeling and the animation, later on we took the rendered animation and did some post processing in Davinci Resolve. I build the lamp in blender, animated it and did some post processing using Davinci Resolve, my partner modeled the table and build the scene around it.
Process

I started with modeling the lamp in blender. I used a reference image of the lamp to get the proportions right. After that I added the materials and textures to the lamp. There are a total of four variations of the lamp in the animation, using different materials and textures. Most of the textures are from BlenderKit .
Probably the biggest challenge was the lighting of the scene. It took me a while to get the lighting right, as the lamp is a light source itself and I wanted to create a realistic lighting situation. With the desired effect of a visible light cone on the table the bulb had to be strong enough to light up the scene, but not too strong to not overexpose the inside of the lamp. At the end I opted for using the bulb itself to light up the inner part of the lamp and a point light to light up the scene.
The main focus in the animation is the lamps ability to open and close. The lamp is build in a way that the inner part can be rotated to open and close the lamp.

The main learning point of this project was how much work goes into creating a 3D animation. From modeling to lighting and rendering, there are a lot of steps that need to be done to create a realistic looking animation. I also learned a lot about the post processing of a rendered animation, as I did some color correction, frame generation and denoising in Davinci Resolve.
